Top Suggestions when choosing and working with a Barrister.

1. Find out how many years of experience they have.
2. The barrister will draft the Court documents and therefore it is important that your Solicitors has prepared him properly with the evidence and that you have a copy of the document as well. (And exhibits)
3. Avoid duplication to reduce costs.  Your Solicitor should be instructing the Barrister not you. 
4. Proof of evidence is a document prepared between you and your solicitor that will be used by the Barrister in Court.
5. Your Barrister should let the Court know if there is missing disclosure or issues which are important i.e. has the Complainant made allegations before? Full non sensitive unused material schedules. Are exhibits missing?  Has the crown answered your defence statement properly? Details of all other false or unproven allegations, of any nature, made by the Complainant.  True copies?
6. Your Barrister should hold the Crown to account for not doing its job. Criminal Procedure Rules 1. Make sure that he/she does so.
