Further info and thanks…
Thank you to all of you who have taken the time to comment on the Brian B case and the compensation angle As he stated in his interview, in some way being compensated can help with the vindication and, as one member has pointed out, as I quote, “Brian Buckle has had his conviction quashed but he has been unable to ‘prove’ his innocence beyond reasonable doubt. So he gets no compensation. Yet any complainant can come forward with an uncorroborated sexual offense accusation (which could be true or false) and those people are eligible for compensation via the CICA even if no crime is proven. How can that be fair? If Brian Buckle can’t prove himself innocent, then how does a complainant end up getting compensation when it has never been proven in a court of law that a crime against them was committed? Surely the double standard there needs addressing. Do we have a presumption of innocence in this country or not?”
Brian
