Napo Prison capacities

The Ministerial announcements on Prison capacity are in the news regularly. From the outset we want to make it clear that Napo’s starting point for any discussion on prison overcrowding is that it is a tragedy.

The current Shadow Justice Secretary announcing an intention to attempt to ‘prison-build’ their way out of this abhorrent mess suggests’ lack of reality-based decisions.

Probation and family court staff – overworked with no resources in increasing numbers in the criminal justice system.

How can they give those who have lived in confinement, or starting through the system, a decent and healthy support service – when they are not in a position to support themselves.
